THE ABC'S OF REMEMBERING AND EXPLAINING THE PROBLEMS WITH THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION

Where Does This Leave You?

Have you been using the “fact” of evolution as your excuse for trying to ignore God? If you have, I hope you will stop a moment and seriously consider a few real facts about yourself and the God who created you:

First: God created you for the specific purpose of being in His family and spending eternity with Him. He’s on your side. He loves you and has already proved it by sending His Son to suffer the punishment that you deserved. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Jesus also said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” [that their life might be full and meaningful] (John 10:10).

Second: You are currently separated from God by sin. Whether it be an attitude of active rebellion or passive indifference, we all have within us evidence of what the Bible calls sin. Romans 3:23 very clearly says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Because of our sin we deserve to remain spiritually separated from God: “For the wages of sin is death” [spiritual separation] (Romans 6:23).

Third: God is holy and righteous, and everyone who is in His family must also be made righteous [sinless]. No one can make himself sinless, but God will do it for us. We must trust that the sacrifice His Son made for us was sufficient to pay the price for our sins. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made him who had no sin [Christ] to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” If there was any other way, God would not have had to send His Son to die for us, but Jesus made it clear when He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me” (John 14:6).

Forth: You can receive forgiveness and the gift of being a child of God by turning away from your own way of living (repentance) and asking Christ to take control of your life. Ephesians 2:8, 9 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith [trust]; and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” John 1:12 says, “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

Fifth: God knows your heart and is not so concerned with your exact words, but if you would like to ask Him to forgive your sins and allow you to become His child forever, here is a suggested prayer:

“Lord Jesus, I need you. Thank you for creating me and dying on the cross for my sins and giving me eternal life. I gladly receive you as my Savior and Lord. Take control of my life and make me into the person you created me to be.”

Does this prayer express the desire of your heart? If it does, pray it right now, and Christ will come into your life, just as He promised.

There are many Christians who think that God may have used Darwinian evolution in some way to create our universe. My personal conviction is that a person can embrace an attempted harmony between Darwinian evolution and Scripture and still be on his or her way to heaven. But since God is the Author of Truth, doesn’t it seem inconsistent to reject His explanation concerning the creation of the universe in favor of a theory that clearly militates against Him?

According to God’s Word, death is the result of a moral choice made by God’s highest creation. It was not a part of the process which produced God’s highest creation.
