“No logically or statistically possible method of getting life from non-life has ever been found.”
—Dr. Henry Schaefer
Life From Non-life is also referred to as Spontaneous Generation, Spontaneous Creation and Abiogenesis.
Dr. Schaefer points out that the problem for Macro-evolutionists is the fact that, “No logically or statistically possible method of getting life from non-life has ever been found.”
But this was ignored by those like Sr. Julian Huxley who desperately wanted to be able to ignore God! “Darwinism removed the whole idea of God as creator of organisms from the sphere of rational discussion. Darwin pointed out that no supernatural designer was needed; since natural selection could account for any known form of life, there was no room for supernatural agency in its evolution.” —Sr. Julian Huxley, British Evolutionary Biologist, 1887-1975
“One has only to contemplate the magnitude of this task to concede that the spontaneous generation of a living organism is impossible. Yet here we are… Most biologists, having reviewed with satisfaction the downfall of the spontaneous generation hypothesis, are yet unwilling to accept the alternative belief in special creation, and are left with nothing.”
—Dr. George Wald,
Evolutionary Harvard Biology Professor, 1954
But in 1953 science was making major breakthroughs!
The Miller-Urey Experiment was hailed as a triumph! Miller designed a series of glass tubes and bottles in which he heated water and specific gases and sent electric sparks through them. It was reported that his experiments showed that life was likely to pop-up spontaneously everywhere conditions matched what we thought the early conditions were on Earth.
Carl Sagan, host of one of the most widely watched series in the history of American public television, Cosmos, called the Miller-Urey Experiment, “The single most significant step in convincing many scientists that life is likely to be abundant in the cosmos.”
In addition to the Miller-Urey Experiment, James Watson and Francis Crick made one of the greatest discoveries of the twentieth century, that the DNA molecule exists in the form of a three-dimensional double helix.
Through the work of many scientists, we now understood that DNA is a super-molecule which stores coded hereditary information.
"The DNA in a single human cell contains so much information it would fill as many books as are contained in a large library.”
In Time Magazine 1953, a cover article had this to say: “James Watson and Francis Crick unraveled the chemical basis of life.... Stanley Miller discovered how matter and energy could create the building blocks of life without a preexisting cell. Unleashed from paralysis and spurred by the Space Age, research on the origin of life was launched by these.... momentous achievements into an era of discovery and achievement.”
Since that time, most people have been convinced that science has discovered that Macro-evolution must have happened because that's just the way things are! And the scientific community hasn't wanted to point out too many of the problems—lest people start believing the Bible again! However things began to change:
Origin of life...
"almost a miracle..."
Atheist, Dr. Francis Crick, 1981
1980
Dean Kenyon, Author of Biological Predestination wrote, “The authors [of The Mysteries of Life’s Origin] believe, and I now concur, that there is a fundamental flaw in all current theories of the chemical origins of life.”
1981
Francis Crick, an atheist and Co-discoverer of the structure of DNA had this to say: “An honest man, armed with all the knowledge available to us now, could only state that in some sense, the origin of life appears at the moment to be almost a miracle, so many are the conditions which would have had to have been satisfied to get it going.”
Origin of life...
"much more difficult than I, and most people envisioned..."
Dr. Stanley Miller, 1993
1993
Stanley Miller, in a Scientific American article said this, “The problem of the origin of life has turned out to be much more difficult than I, and most other people, envisioned.”
Origin of life...
Miller-Urey produced nothing... promising as a wellspring for life."
Dr. Steven Benner
1991
“Dr. Steven Benner, one of the most respected contributors in the area of origins research said that the classical approaches to the origins of life during the second half of the 20th century [such as the Miller-Urey experiment] merely produced ‘prebiotic soups’ having the chemical complexity of asphalt (useful, perhaps, for paving roads but not particularly promising as a wellspring for life).”
—Dr. Henry Schaefer
Origin of life...
"all discussions...either end in stalemate or in a confession of ignorance."
Dr. Klaus Dose, 1998
1998
“More than thirty years of experimentation on the origin of life in the fields of chemical and molecular evolution have led to a better perception of the immensity of the problem of the origin of life on Earth rather than to its solution. At present all discussions on principle theories and experiments in the field either end in stalemate or in a confession of ignorance.”
—Dr. Klaus Dose,
Top biochemist in the area of molecular evolution
Origin of life...
"Simplest life form...requires a thousand pages... How did all this information come together?"
Dr. Henry Schaefer, 2003
2003
“How did the simplest self-replicating biochemical system come into being? The simplest life form is much simpler than an amoeba, yet it’s molecular information content is still staggering, requiring a technical description more than a thousand pages long if an attempt was made to discuss stereochemical features. How did all this information come together?”
—Dr. Henry Schaefer
Willful Ignorance:
"Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something..."
Dr. Steven Hawking, 2012
The problem is that these acknowledgments of failure in the area of origin of life research don't get told in school textbooks or to the general public through the media.
2012
“Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist.”
—Steven Hawking,
The Grand Design, 2012
Steven Hawking is a very smart scientist, however he has chosen to be willfully ignorant on one of the most basic facts of reality—life only comes from life!
Currently on Wikipedia
“The Miller–Urey experiment and similar experiments demonstrated that most amino acids, basic chemicals of life, can be synthesized from inorganic compounds in conditions intended to be similar to early Earth. Several mechanisms of organic molecule synthesis have been investigated, including lightning and radiation.”
I included this quote from Wikipedia to show that even today in many public forums the complete failure of the Mill-Urey experiment is still being basically denied. An uninformed person reading this quote could easily get the impression that this 1953 experiment demonstrated a step forward in abiogenesis.
“No method of getting life from non-life has ever been found.”
The Truth Is...
“Even a single gene is a very complicated molecular system. If the synthesis of life [that is, the ability to combine simpler substances to create life] has eluded the tremendous design capabilities of modern science, is there any good reason to be confident that these incredibly intricate molecular systems just assembled themselves by chance?”
